Taking a seat, even on a field trip.
There is a lot of standing around, looking around, and listening, on most walks.
If you are lucky, you can find something and photograph it.
When you do it with a group, more eyes and ears, and the company of more experienced bird watchers, is an advantage.
But it's most peaceful when done solitarily.

Yes, a common bird but a photo I like, at Dekorte Park in Lyndhurst, NJ. 5/18/2026.

I like this photo because the light was good and the background was uncluttered. These are two things that make photographing birds difficult for me, and when they cooperate I feel lucky.

Wandering around Dekorte Park

On Native Plant Day
A few photos from the Bergen County Audubon Society Native Plant day at Dekorte Park. A great place to learn about the importance of native plants; how to incorporate them on your property in your garden or even in pots. Wandered around the exhibits, attended the awards ceremony, but also took a walk around the park taking photos of some birds.

Bluebird walk June 2026

06/07/26
Sunday bluebird walk 06/07/26 with the Bergen County Audubon Society at the New Jersey Botanical Gardens. Did not disappoint, the bluebirds were out for all to see. Also saw a painted turtle laying her eggs.

A solo walk a DeKorte Park

An ordinary day at Dekorte Park on a Monday. It was special seeing the juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron and the Great Egret catching the crab.
